Martin Malloy

When Martin Malloy form Nottingham retired from the fire service three years ago and took a lump sum of money from his pension, he wanted to invest in something a bit different. Molly, 54, who lives with his wife, Michelle, 53, and their children, Mackenzie, 20, and Jack, 15, he always held a diverse set of investments, including stocks and shares and buy-to-let property.

“I researched investing in whisky after the idea was mentioned by a friend on a walk one day. It piqued my interest from the beginning- and im not a whisky drinker myself”, he said. Molloy came across the Scotch whisky investment company Whisky 1901 and invested £23,000 in three casks over a period of 6 months.

Jemma Selves

Flight attendant flying high with whisky investment. After her father passed away, Jemma Selves invested almost £6,000 of her inheritance in a whisky cask. She purchased a barrel of Glen Moray single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region via Whisky 1901.

“My Dad was a whisky drinker; he loved a bottle at Christmas – albeit the cheaper blends – so he would appreciate that I invested some of his money in this way. It feels fitting somehow”, explained Jemma.

Allan Bell

But Aberdeenshire-based Allan Bell, aged 57, tapped into one of his greatest passions when deciding upon an alternative, and potentially more lucrative, investment plan for his new grandson Hugo, born in February 2023 to his daughter in Spain.

A former military vet and restauranteur turned HGV driver, Allan has a long-standing family connection to Scotch whisky – his own grandfather was head of security for the prestigious Black & White distillery.

You don’t have to be a whisky drinker to appreciate its value, according to Nigel Kippax, aged 60, from Saddleworth in Greater Manchester. Thanks to whisky cask investment, he is on a clear path to early retirement. An accountant by trade, Nigel is accustomed to providing sound advice when it comes to investing money wisely.

Over the past 30 years, Nigel has worked for a large engineering group where, in his current role as Commercial Manager, he is responsible for growing profitability by overseeing budget and managing finances. Fortunately, Nigel has been able to apply his expertise to making his own finances work for him.
