Whisky fit for a King

A regal selection of exceptional whiskies.

Ahead of this weekends joyous celebrations multiple Whisky distilleries are gearing up to commemorate this historic event. Let us know your favourite!

Royal Brackla 21 Year Old

This 21-year-old single malt from Royal Brackla is a truly exceptional whisky that has been finished in ex-sherry casks to impart a rich depth of flavor to the palate. The additional maturation time and sherry cask finishing have added layers of dried fruit and sweet spices, making this a truly luxurious and indulgent whisky.

The Royal Brackla distillery has a long and proud history of producing exceptional single malts, and this expression is no exception. The careful selection of the ex-sherry casks has allowed the whisky to develop a complex and nuanced flavor profile, with notes of raisins, figs, and dates, as well as hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.

Overall, this 21-year-old single malt from Royal Brackla is a must-try for whisky enthusiasts looking for a rich and complex dram with a hint of sweetness and spice.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Vanilla crème, some sweet ans slightly sharp fresh berries and gooseberries – much fruitier than the 12 & 16 year olds.

Palatte: Chocolate flake with just a few dark spices adding complexity.

Finish: The green edge seen in the other expressions seems to appear on the finish with cocoa, chocolate sponge and cream.

Overall: Opulent fruits and spices.

Highgrove Coronation Whisky

Highgrove Gardens and Cotswolds Distillery have come together to create a limited edition single malt whisky to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty The King Charles III. With only 340 bottles available, this exclusive release offers notes of toffee, chocolate, and red fruits, and is presented in a bespoke box with a commemorative Coronation label. The cask was filled in May 2017 and bottled in March 2023.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: baked pears, nutmeg, treacle

Palette: toasted oak, cacao, candied orange

Finish: sweet, rich, touch of clove spice

Gordon & MacPhail 74YO whisky

Glen Grant Distillery’s Private Collection 1948 is a truly remarkable whisky that has been aged for over seven decades in a first-fill Sherry cask. Filled on 10th April 1948, the year of King Charles III’s birth, only 281 bottles of this ultra-rare whisky will be made available to the public. It was bottled on 15th December, exactly 74 years after His Majesty’s christening.

Despite its long maturation period, this whisky retains an impressive cask strength of 50.4%. Its vibrant and fragrant profile is packed with festive spices, mulled berries, and a subtle hint of raisin and lemon zest. Each sip of this single malt whisky is a journey through time and a testament to the artistry and dedication of Glen Grant Distillery’s master distillers.

This rare and unique release is the perfect way to mark the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike to own a piece of history and savour a truly exceptional dram.

Balmoral Coronation Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Crafted exclusively for Balmoral Estates, the Highland-style celebratory whisky embodies the pine forests and grassy, floral nature of the surrounding area. This exclusive release features only five selected casks, aged for 18 years to showcase the distillery’s character, which is further enhanced by a long and gentle maturation in refill casks – European oak butts for richness and American oak hogshead for sweetness.

Delicate notes of orchard fruits, freshly cut grass, orange peel, dried ginger, and liquorice fill the nose, while the medium-bodied palate offers a sweet and malty taste, complemented by fresh fruit, creamy butterscotch, and oak spice that lingers on the finish.

Bottled at 48% abv, this strength is a tribute to the year of His Majesty’s birth (1948), the first visit from Balmoral to Royal Lochnagar by the Royal Family – Queen Victoria & Prince Albert – in 1848, and the optimal balance of flavors. Adding water enhances the light, fruity notes of the whisky.

Crafted uniquely for Balmoral Estates at the Royal Lochnagar Distillery, this whisky is a true representation of the Highland style.
