The Collection: A Multiple Award-Winning Vintage

Seal of approval

Since its official launch at The Game Fair in July, our inaugural Scotch whisky bottling already has four industry accolades to its name.

Edition One of The Collection – a Glenburgie 35-Years-Old vintage – is going down well with experts, collectors and whisky enthusiasts alike. Here’s a snapshot of its industry award success so far.

A passion project

Our first release from The Collection is the culmination of years of dedication by not just myself, but the whole team at Whisky 1901. Whilst our business is founded on whisky cask investment, the ability to share hidden gems and rare vintages has been a natural next step. Strong links to an extensive network of distilleries has enabled us to source the very best product for our customers and share our passion with a wider audience.

Industry awards so far

Four months on from the launch and The Glenburgie 35-Years-Old has been awarded four medals for excellence. With more awards entered, we are looking forward to further recognition and excited for what the future holds.

In the single malt category for Speyside bottlings aged over 31 years old, the Glenburgie 1988 was awarded a Gold Medal from the Global Scotch Whisky Masters 2024. Run by The Spirits Business magazine, the bottling was found to taste like pomelo, pear, baking spice, and lemon oils”.

Our first edition was awarded another Gold Medal in conjunction with The Spirits Business magazine in The Luxury Masters 2024. The Glenburgie achieved the accolade in the Scotch whisky, single malt, ultra premium category. In the words of one of the expert judges for the category about all of the gold medallists: “If you were introducing someone to higher-end whiskies, this is what you’d give them.” “This is a very good representation of what’s out there; great variety.”

A Silver Medal was also awarded for the 1988 vintage from The San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) gave the bottling a Bronze Award, commenting: This drink offers a unique linseed oil aroma with buttery, sweet notes. The palate features sponge cake and subtle pineapple hints.”
